Update!

So much has happened since my last post that I wanted to share with you what is going on. My life has changed dramatically, you see my husband was diagnosed May 2011 with lung cancer. We also found out that the cancer was in his colon. A trip to the most wonderful place "Cancer Treatment Center of America" in Zion, Illinois began the process of trying to beat this terrible disease. But with all the latest technology and everything done for him that could be, he passed away January 15, 2012. My heart just broke, and my life as I stated earlier has completely changed. I loved and enjoyed so many decorating projects, but now just the will to survive is at the top of the list. Maybe one day, I will again enjoy these things, I hope so, but in the meantime I ask for your prayers. Life does go on, and grief is a process that has to be endured.
Thank you for stopping by! I will be back some day. Making my home beautiful was so much a part of me that I do believe that one day, it will again.

Blessings and joy to you!

New (old) Sideboard!

Ugly is not an appropriate word for this first picture. It was in really bad shape, but just had to try to do something with it. So, first state was just to clean and get ready to prime. I wasn't going to waste any time or effort on sanding! lol
Another view of just how bad it was!
So much better after priming with two coats of latex Kilz, Now it is beginning to look better to me.
Some of the guides on the drawers had to be fixed and one was completely missing, here they are with the primer.
I used a very soft blue for the base, (it was a mixture of some left over paint and i just blended until I liked the color) I saw a sideboard in Kirklands that gave me the idea for the color.
Looking so much better, I was beginning to get excited to see the final product at this point.
The top actually had some raised places in it, but after painted, they didn't show up very much.

Here is the after, I was so busy I didn't take any pictures of the process. But it was just an antique stain that I mixed with regular house paint and glaze. Just brushed it on and wiped it off. Two coats of water base poly plus the hardware was spray painted with hammered bronze and I was finished!
Sammy has to be in all the pictures to, he laid up in the cabinet when I didn't have the drawers in there.
He doesn't go with the new (old) sideboard.
The new owners will pick it up in the morning and finally I will have more space in my garage for yet another garage sale treasure.

Little Brown Hen!

I love chickens! It doesn't matter if it is roosters, hens or chicks. I just love them, and also love to decorate with them. I try to keep them in my kitchen, dining room, and sunroom, but they have ventured onto the back porch. How many is to many? I haven't figured it out yet. Whether I am looking at goodwill or garage sales, my eyes are trained to look for chickens! This little brown hen is also nesting to and have to have  a couple of eggs. These are so easy to put together, so I  keep my booth stocked because others like them to. She has found a place in my dining room for now, who knows where she will wind up!
Thank you for stopping by, I love your comments.
Have a blessed week!

Upscale Poodle Bed!

What poodle or two wouldn't want to sleep in that cute little bed? I have two of them, Maddy and Bailey and they love their little beds, but this one may be the only one for awhile. It did take a while to finish it. In case you are wondering what it use to be in its former life, well it was an end table that was given to me. We turned it upside down, hubby cut off the two legs at the bottom and then I bought wooden pieces from Hobby Lobby to use for finials. The feet was in my stash, just plastic screw on legs that attached really easy. After all the priming, I was ready to paint! What a job, it really is hand painted so you will see some imperfections. So not tape and no measuring, it takes to long. lol. The headboard is a picture frame that I paid 2.00 at our local goodwill. On the back of the frame I painted over the little tabs that keeps the picture in, so I can change the pictures.  The pillow in there now is temporary until I can find one that really fits and of course the right color. So, after a few hours of painting and sealing, it is finally ready to use. Of course, it will be a few days, poodles are very picky and until the paint smells go away, I don't think they will use it. Will I do another one! I think so, and have had requests already from some friends.

Love Those Birdnests!

I do just love those birds nests. Seems like I am seeing them everywhere! So for my project for today, since it is a little cool outside was to make something for a table in my family room. I first started with some old books I had taken the backs off and then antiqued the pages, (an idea from Pottery Barn)  of course I did have to add a little gold (they didn't) . Next I had some burlap material that I just cut into strips to hold it together and make a bow. The birds nest was fun,  the nest itself was 25 cents at goodwill and the rest I had in my shop. I just glued the feathers and eggs inside and added the small branches and the berries. And it was finished, took no time at all. My den did  not have the light I needed for good pictures so I took these in the sun porch.
Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments.

Flowers for Church!

What a blessing for me to furnish the floral arrangements for our church! Since this is absolutely one of my favorite things to do. The largest one goes in the sanctuary and the other is for the entry table. Doesn't it look like Spring? I especially love this time of year because I can mix all the colors and there is no wrong way to do it!  Of course no (hardly any) arrangement would be complete without a nest with eggs! I hope you enjoy them, thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments. I am linking with Kara over at Elements Interiors and Between Naps on the Porch! The links follow.
Have a wonderful rest of the week, Spring is here and I am so thankful!
